Learning Experience Design Manager
Location: Austin, TX
Position Overview:
The learning experience design manager (LX mgr) is a key leader in the Six Red Marbles design team. The LX mgr conceives innovative learning experience solutions to meet client needs, is responsible for quality, acts as a point of escalation for project, and manages and mentors designers. The LX mgr will interface with clients and prospective clients and participate in the scoping/pricing process.
Responsibilities
Leadership Skills
- Has primary responsibility for overall quality, rigor, and engagement of all learning experiences within assigned programs
- Is a steward for SRM and supports the company in a positive manner while providing feedback and recommendations for ways to improve the operation
- Leads the development of new approaches within the team
- Will liaise between clients, internal LX designers, freelance learning experience (LX) designers, and cross-functional internal teams to ensure consistent quality across all aspects of a program
- Can lead multiple projects with multiple clients simultaneously
- Is able to confidently manage others and coach others
- Displays excellent problem-solving skills
- Is consistently well organized and has answers to queries from team, management, or client at fingertips even when under pressure
- Maintains professionalism, calm approach, and commitment to projects
- Works collaboratively with project management
- Anticipates the needs of his or her team and works proactively to address them
- Is comfortable making judgment calls that impact project processes and deliverables
Client-Facing and Business Orientation
- Is comfortable and effective in communication with prospective clients
- May contribute to sales conversations, proposal writing, initial workflow creation, and budget conversations with the Presales team and VP of Learning Strategy
- Engaged in project kickoffs and often acts as a primary liaison between SRM and the client organization
- Must be a highly skilled communicator with a keen sense of how to maintain excellent relationships
- Facilitates project planning events with clients, both on-site and virtually
- Is aware of important sales and marketing concerns that affect the success of a product or service we are designing
Management
- Recruits new team members
- Prospects qualified instructional designers and vets freelancers as needed
- Provides supervision and feedback to direct reports
- Identifies and implements development opportunities for staff
- Trains and supervises learning experience designers for program, including freelancers
- Participates in resource allocation
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred, degree in instructional design a major plus
- 7+ years of experience in instructional design
- Experience managing staff
- Strategic and process-oriented thinker
- Ability to participate in scoping and pricing activities
