Senior Accountant

About the job
Reporting to the Director of Financial Operations & FP&A, the Senior Accountant is a core member of the company’s Financial and Accounting Organization. Some junior members of the Finance and Accounting team may report to the Senior Accountant, at the discretion of the Director, Financial Operations & FP&A.
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Company’s financial records through accurate and timely preparation of monthly journal entries, financial statements, and balance sheet reconciliations, and use of internal policies, procedures, and mechanisms to identify, prevent, and monitor risks for material misstatements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare month end close general ledger entries timely and accurately
- Prepare monthly revenue recognition analysis under the cost-to-cost method, including % complete calculations and related journal entries
- Prepare monthly project performance reporting, including project profit analysis
- Prepare monthly corporate expense allocations, including preparation and posting of allocation journal entries
- Prepare monthly commission and bonus calculations and accruals, including support schedules and related journal entries
- Prepare financial reports timely and accurately
- Investigate and explain significant discrepancies between budgeted and actual financial results
- Prepare and/or review balance sheet reconciliations monthly
- Develop and execute system to check and balance Staff and Junior Staff Account work product
- Manage and/or monitor Accounts Payable and Receivable processes
- Support audit and tax activities, collaborating with internal stakeholders, auditors and tax advisors to help facilitate the audit process and tax compliance
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities
- Provide mentorship to junior members of Financial and Accounting Organization
- Manage complex accounting projects, as assigned by the Director, FP&A or senior leadership
- All other duties as assigned
Desired Skills and Knowledge
- Strong Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, standards (GAAP), and practices to accurately record and report financial transactions
- Proficient in financial management software and systems (Sage Intacct strongly preferred)
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial statements, budgeting, and cash flow management
- Ability to mentor junior members of the finance team, fostering collaboration within the team
- Ability to maintain accuracy in financial reporting by meticulously reviewing data and identifying discrepancies
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred, Associate’s degree with relevant work experience accepted
- Minimum of 5 years of Accounting/Finance Experience
