The Challenge

Young Hearts Open Minds™ (formerly known as Before Racism) set out to address one of the most complex challenges in early childhood education: how to help prevent the development of racial bias in children, particularly during the earliest stages of social, emotional, and cognitive growth.

The organization needed a comprehensive, research-informed digital program that aligned with its founding principles, respected developmentally appropriate practices, and could be delivered effectively to educators, caregivers, and families. The challenge was not only content creation, but program architecture, designing a learning experience that was thoughtful, sensitive, and actionable in real early-learning environments.

The Partnership

Six Red Marbles partnered with Young Hearts Open Minds™ to shape the structure, content, and delivery of its early childhood education program. Beginning with a Product Development Workshop (PDW), SRM worked closely with the organization’s leadership and subject matter experts to translate research and values into a cohesive, scalable learning experience.

This partnership focused on aligning educational best practices, DEIA-informed perspectives, and practical implementation needs for educators and families.

The Strategy

SRM applied a learning experience design approach that blended:

Define guiding principles and intended learner outcomes
Identify target audiences across early childhood educators, staff, and families
Establish a flexible, modular program structure
Determine content needs and delivery options
Ensure alignment with early childhood development research and best practices

This strategy ensured that financial literacy concepts were not only taught, but experienced and reinforced.

What SRM Designed & Developed

Working in close collaboration with FitMoney, SRM designed and developed the full $uperSquad experience, including:

Modular course content with clear learning objectives and completion pathways
Readings, articles, and curated resources for educators and caregivers
Formative assessments and reflective practice opportunities
Learning activities and applied exercises
Live, synchronous online sessions to support discussion and community learning
Assignments and assessments aligned to program goals
A parent portal with at-home activities, family resources, and discussion boards

SRM led learning design, creative development, and production from concept through launch.

The Learning Experience

The program was designed to meet learners where they are—providing clear structure, reflective space, and practical application. Educators engage with content that supports self-awareness, empathy, and inclusive classroom practices, while families access tools that reinforce learning at home.

The experience balances research-based insight with real-world implementation, supporting educators as facilitators of belonging and positive identity development in early childhood settings.

The resulting program provided Young Hearts Open Minds™ with a cohesive, integrated digital learning experience aligned to its mission and research foundation. Educators and families gained access to thoughtfully designed resources that support early intervention and long-term impact.

By pairing strong program architecture with accessible content and delivery, the organization was positioned to expand its reach and support early childhood communities with confidence.
