Position Overview

The AVP, Higher Education Sales is a new business leader responsible for driving net-new revenue growth across colleges and universities. This is a quota-carrying, new business sales role focused on acquiring new university partners.

This role is focused on prospecting, building relationships with senior university leadership (Provosts, Deans, CIOs, Online leaders), and closing large, complex deals. Success is defined by the ability to create, advance, and close new opportunities through outbound efforts, networking, and on-campus engagement.

While expansion within existing accounts is expected, this is not a portfolio management role. We are seeking proven hunters with direct experience selling into higher education institutions.

Core Responsibilities

 

New Business Development (Primary Focus)

  • Build and manage a high-quality pipeline through prospecting, outbound outreach, and territory planning
  • Develop new relationships with senior university decision-makers across academic and administrative leadership
  • Lead end-to-end sales cycles from initial outreach through contract execution
  • Drive on-campus meetings, conference engagement, and executive-level presentations
  • Partner with marketing to convert leads into qualified opportunities and accelerate pipeline

Account Expansion (Secondary)

  • Identify and close expansion opportunities within select existing clients
  • Cross-sell SRM services including instructional design, course development, assessment, and program development

Pipeline & Performance

  • Maintain accurate pipeline management, forecasting, and CRM discipline
  • Consistently meet or exceed individual revenue and quota targets

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate with delivery, product, and executive leadership to shape solutions and drive successful outcomes
  • Support development of proposals, statements of work (SOWs), and contract negotiations

Required Experience

 
  • 5–10+ years of direct sales experience into colleges and universities
  • Proven track record of net-new logo acquisition and consistent quota attainment
  • Experience selling complex, high-value services or solutions ($250K+ deals preferred)
  • Established network of senior university decision-makers
  • Ability to lead executive-level conversations and navigate long, consultative sales cycles
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Willingness to travel (up to 50%) for on-campus meetings and industry conferences

Not a Fit If

 
  • Your experience is primarily in account management, customer success, or portfolio growth without net-new sales responsibility
  • You have not directly sold into higher education institutions
