Landmark College

Designing accessible, learner-centered online courses that empower students who learn differently.

The Challenge

Landmark College serves students who learn differently, including learners with auditory, visual, mobility, and learning disabilities. As the college expanded its LC Online programs, it needed online courses that were not only academically rigorous, but intentionally designed for accessibility, flexibility, and learner autonomy. The challenge was to translate in-person instruction into inclusive, effective online experiences without compromising academic standards.

The Partnership

Six Red Marbles partnered with Landmark College over a multi-year engagement to design and build a wide range of blended and fully online courses for LC Online. Working closely with faculty, SRM’s instructional design team collaborated course by course to ensure learning experiences reflected Landmark’s mission and supported students with diverse learning needs.

The Strategy

SRM applied a learning experience design approach that blended:

Embed accessibility considerations from the start, not as retrofits
Design for multiple learning modalities and learner preferences
Ensure consistent, predictable navigation and structure
Support faculty with clear frameworks and scalable design patterns

This strategy ensured that financial literacy concepts were not only taught, but experienced and reinforced.

What SRM Designed & Developed

Working in close collaboration with FitMoney, SRM designed and developed the full $uperSquad experience, including:

Canvas-based course builds aligned to UDL and WCAG standards
Use of Canvas Immersive Reader to support reading comprehension and customization
Fully captioned videos with downloadable transcripts
Standardized course navigation with clearly labeled, tabbable modules
Compatibility testing across browsers and assistive technologies
Accessibility validation using Canvas tools, UDOIT, and Link Validator

SRM led learning design, creative development, and production from concept through launch.

The Learning Experience

Courses were designed to give students multiple ways to engage, understand, and demonstrate learning. Lessons incorporate videos with transcripts, flashcards, slideshows, and step-by-step walkthroughs. Learning objectives are presented in multiple formats like written questions, actionable outcomes, and video so students can access information in the way that works best for them.

Students participate in biweekly small-group synchronous sessions and complete scaffolded, semester-long projects that can be submitted in a medium of their choosing, supporting autonomy and self-expression.

The Impact

The resulting courses created a highly inclusive, flexible online learning environment that supports Landmark’s diverse student population. Faculty gained confidence in online delivery, and students benefited from predictable structure, accessible content, and multiple pathways to success.

Across the engagement, SRM supported the development of six completed courses with ongoing work on additional courses, delivering consistent quality across review cycles and exceeding expectations for collaboration and responsiveness.
