West Academic

Designing courtroom simulations that let law students practice evidence in real-world contexts.

The Challenge

West Academic sought to enhance a larger legal education program for law students studying evidence by providing a more immersive, practice-based learning experience. While the required textbook delivered foundational knowledge, students needed opportunities to apply evidence rules in realistic courtroom scenarios—making complex legal concepts more concrete and engaging.

The Partnership

+

Six Red Marbles partnered with West Academic to design and develop interactive courtroom simulations as a gamified supplement to the core curriculum. Working closely with West Academic’s subject matter experts, SRM ensured that the simulations aligned with legal standards, instructional goals, and the rigor expected in law school instruction.

The Strategy

SRM applied a learning experience design approach that blended:

Use role-based simulations to reinforce application of evidence rules
Create branching narratives that respond to student decisions
Integrate lifelike audio to simulate real courtroom dynamics
Provide feedback and scoring to reinforce learning outcomes
Ensure usability and clarity within a complex subject area

This strategy ensured that financial literacy concepts were not only taught, but experienced and reinforced.

What SRM Designed & Developed

Working in close collaboration with FitMoney, SRM designed and developed the full $uperSquad experience, including:

Gamified courtroom simulations for law students studying evidence
Role-based scenarios allowing learners to act as litigators or judges
Interactive objection opportunities requiring legal reasoning
Lifelike audio recordings of witness testimony and courtroom dialogue
Automated feedback and scoring based on student decisions
End-to-end design, development, and production support

SRM led learning design, creative development, and production from concept through launch.

The Learning Experience

Students engage in a realistic courtroom environment where they must listen carefully, apply their knowledge of evidence, and make timely decisions. In the litigator role, learners identify appropriate moments to object and explain their reasoning. In the judge role, learners evaluate arguments and determine whether objections should be sustained or overruled. Each action is followed by immediate feedback, reinforcing understanding and promoting reflective learning.

The Impact

The simulations created a highly engaging, practice-oriented learning experience that allowed students to move beyond passive reading and into applied legal reasoning. By simulating real courtroom dynamics, the program supported deeper comprehension of evidence concepts and increased student interaction with the material.

Why It Matters

Legal education demands more than theoretical knowledge—it requires opportunities to practice judgment in realistic contexts. Through interactive courtroom simulations, Six Red Marbles helped West Academic bring evidence instruction to life, giving law students a safe, structured environment to apply rules, make decisions, and learn from feedback.
