Remote | Full-Time | Temporary

About the Job

Six Red Marbles is seeking a temporary Senior Learning Experience Designers to serve as a production lead on a large-scale online course redesign project for a public university client. This is a fast-paced, high-volume engagement requiring someone who can lead a team of independent contractor IDs, manage a complex production pipeline, and maintain quality across a large number of simultaneously active courses.

This role is primarily one of production leadership and coordination. You will be responsible for the quality, pace, and workflow integrity of a cohort of courses moving through a multi-stage production process that involves LXDs, QA specialists, and project managers. You will also perform direct instructional design work at key review and finalization stages of the workflow and occasionally contribute to course building when needed.

You will join a cohort of peer Senior LXDs working at the same level on this engagement. The Lead team shares responsibility for the overall production pipeline, collaborates on process refinement and AI governance, and supports one another in maintaining consistent quality standards across the project. This is not a solo role – it is a team effort at the senior level.

This role requires a high degree of responsiveness, organizational discipline, and comfort managing ambiguity in a production environment that is actively being refined. It is well suited to a senior instructional designer with experience leading teams or managing project workflows in a deadline-driven setting.

What You Will Do

Production Leadership and Pipeline Management

  • Oversee a cohort of courses moving simultaneously through a complex, multi-stage production workflow, tracking status and ensuring handoffs happen on schedule
  • Manage a team of 1099 contract Instructional Designers, providing clear direction, timely feedback, and day-to-day support
  • This includes answering questions, reviewing completed work, flagging quality issues, and keeping contractors unblocked and on pace
  • You are the primary point of escalation for your contractor team – issues that cannot be resolved at your level are escalated to the larger project team
  • Monitor course issues templates submitted by contractors and determine what requires escalation versus what can be addressed within the workflow
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date status in the project management system at all times
  • Proactively communicate with the LXD Director about production risks, capacity concerns, or anything that may affect the team’s ability to meet deadlines

Quality Review and Finalization

  • Review contractor-built courses in Canvas at defined checkpoints before they advance in the workflow
  • Conduct preliminary analysis and planning for each course at intake, using the provided design plan and prior course version to identify scope, complexity, and potential issues
  • Finalize draft courses in Canvas, ensuring all components are complete, accurate, and consistent with the design plan before submission for client review
  • Review client feedback and translate it into clear, actionable direction for the contractor ID responsible for revisions
  • Conduct final review and prepare course for client approval submission
  • Complete and manage transmittal communications through the project management system at defined handoff points

Process and Documentation

  • Contribute to the refinement of production documentation, workflow templates, and contractor guidance materials as the process matures
  • Apply instructional design best practices to quality decisions throughout the workflow, with particular attention to alignment, completeness, and instructional coherence in the 8-week format
  • Support onboarding of new contractor IDs as the team scales, including orienting them to the workflow, tools, and quality standards

AI Process Ownership

  • Serve as a shared steward of the project’s centralized ChatGPT environment, including the prompt library, project configuration, and usage guidelines – this is a collective Lead responsibility requiring genuine ownership and follow-through from everyone in the role
  • Monitor prompt performance across your contractor cohort and identify where prompts are producing inconsistent, incomplete, or low-quality outputs
  • Contribute to prompt iteration and improvement in collaboration with other Leads, proposing and testing refinements to maintain output quality as course complexity varies
  • Ensure contractor IDs are using the centralized ChatGPT project correctly and consistently – address drift or workarounds promptly
  • Bring a continuous improvement mindset to AI tool use: what is working, what is not, and what the team should do differently

Required Skills and Experience

Must Have

  • Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating the work of other instructional designers or content contributors
  • Strong hands-on experience with Canvas LMS, including building, reviewing, and finalizing course content
  • Deep grounding in instructional design principles for online and asynchronous higher education
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to track multiple courses in varying stages of production simultaneously
  • Strong written communication skills – you will be the primary source of written direction, feedback, and status updates for your contractor team
  • High responsiveness and availability during working hours — this role requires same-day turnaround on contractor questions and escalations
  • Comfortable operating in a production environment where process is still being refined and priorities may shift
  • Available full-time (up to 40 hours per week) through July 31, 2026
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools – specifically ChatGPT – in a structured, team-wide context, including prompt development, refinement, and governance across a group of users

Nice to Have

  • Experience managing or coordinating freelance or contract creative/instructional workers
  • Familiarity with Panopto or similar video embedding in LMS environments
  • Experience with high-volume course production or redesign projects
  • Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles
  • Experience developing or maintaining centralized AI workflows, shared prompt libraries, or team-level AI usage standards

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any field plus at least 5 years of instructional design experience, or
  • Master’s degree or Ed.D in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field plus at least 3 years of ID experience, or
  • Ph.D in any field plus at least 4 years of instructional design experience
